Shadows Part 7

Shadows part 7: Step Up

Main Passage: 2 Kings 9&10

Picking from last week : Fighting Jezebel
- One Way: Trust in the lord only
- How Elijah fought it. ( Prov . 29:25; 3:5)

The Other Way: Fight with the Lord's boldness
- this is how Jehu fought it. (2 Kings 9:30-37)

Jumping back to the beginning for Jehu

It began with his Anointing:
to dedicate tot e service of God.

The three stages Jehu went though

Receive anointing and call from God (2 Kings 9:1-10)
       Accepting His anointing ( 2 Kings 9:11-13)
Walked in the anointing and calling that you were given (2 Kings 9:14-29; 10:1-10:28)

To truly walk in the anointing of God Jehu had to clean house.

Quick Point: no matter how tough the opponent seems in your path, you can fight and conquer it with the help of the Lord.

Two influences in this process for Jehu:
-He was from Royal line ( Jehu son of Jehoshaphat )
-He had good people around him to encourage him

Final Point: We study history not only to make the mistake of the past but also to continue in the success of the past.

Beautiful, Beautiful

Beautiful, Beautiful
Pastor Jen Rayle

Beautiful—pleasurably exalts mind or spirit, gives pleasure to the senses, befitting (appropriate, seemly, proper decent) or Comely (having a pleasing appearance not homely or plain)  Seemly (good looking handsome agreeably fashioned, attractive suited to the occasion

Esther 2:12
12 Before a young woman’s turn came to go in to King Xerxes, she had to complete twelve months of beauty treatments prescribed for the women, six months with oil of myrrh and six with perfumes and cosmetics.

Isa 52:7 and Romans 10:15
         “Beautiful are the feet”
Ever wonder why the feet?  I do.  What is so beautiful about the feet?

1 Sam 16:7
“but the Lord looks at the heart.”
Here we have the heart that Christ looks at to determine our beauty.

1 Peter 3:3-4
Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.

Col 3:12
12 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

Gal 5:22-23
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

What is our Beauty Treatment?

  • Love—agape, strong affection for another arising out of kinship; warm attachment or devotion; unselfish loyal and benevolent; concern for the good of another; a score of zero
  • Joy—the emotion evoked by well-being success or good fortune; or by the prospect of possessing what one desires; a source or cause of delight
  • Peace—A state of tranquility or quiet; freedom from disquieting or oppressive thoughts or emotions
  • Patience—bearing pains or trials without complaint; the refraining from the enforcement of something that is due to you like debt which is Forbearance; steadfast despite opposition, difficult adversity;
  • Gentleness—mildness of manners or disposition, meekness
  • Kindness—moral goodness, integrity; to be kind= of sympathetic or helpful nature, of a forbearing nature; to give pleasure or relief; benign with a gentle disposition
  • Goodness—uprightness of heart and life; the nutritious, flavorful, or beneficial part of something; of favorable character or tendency; virtuous, right, commendable
  • Faithfulness—steadfast in affection or allegiance; firm in adherence to promises or in observance of duty; conviction of the truth of anything , belief; firm belief in something in which there is no proof.  Which is the Shield…why the shield?
  • Self-control—virtue of one who masters his desires and passions; restrained exercised over one’s own impulse, emotions or desires.

Restore Part 5: Restoring from within

Big Idea: You and I are supposed to be restorers

Restorers: someone who envisions the world as it was meant to be and works towards that vision partnering with God.
·      It’s not all going to be restore before God comes back, that is when it will be completely restore.

Quiz
·      1-9 with one question: four things that you can do to be a restorer?

Four  Possible four answers
o   Answer #6: be willing to believe broken parts of your life and this world can be restored
o   Answer #7: don’t separate into Christian subcultures
o   Answer #8: Instead of being offended by culture, but be provoked by it in a healthily way.
o   Answer #9: Thinking  of your vocation not as a barrier on God’s call on your life but as an opportunity.

Five Things
·      We have to pay attention to and have to do before we touch 6-9

Gabe Lyons, “no matter how progressive your approach is to your faith, we are all susceptible to stumbling.” There are things that cause us to get off track and if we assume we are ready to go into the grittiest of places and we are immune to falling, then we are blind and we are lost. Everybody is susceptible to temptations and the appealing nature to what the world has to offer but as restorers and we’re not disciplined in that approached we risk sacrificing the greater work that God may want to accomplish though us.

Mesillat Yeshiram, path of the just (Jewish pub)
·      If a man is allured by the things of this world and is estranged to his creator, it is not he alone who is corrupted but the whole world is corrupted with him.

Romans 12:1-2

Things to allow us to stay anchored/ stay grounded to God.
  ·   Read and enjoy the bible

o   How am I approaching the word of God as a person?
o   How do I handle it?

    o   Tips to do this
§  Don’t be afraid to read/ compare different translations.
    §  2 Timothy 3:16

o   How many of you have regretted not getting everything done this week?
o   Move into our lives the idea of the Sabbath
o   Moved with intention with replenish our soul so we the energy to finish.
o   Having sometime , a day, half a day, or significant time where you are not required to be your   job or you.
  ·   Fast for Simplicity
o   Reminds us of our dependence on God
o   Confirming that we need more God and less of the other stuff.
 ·   Be Fully Present
   o   Being embodied
   o   We become divided people
o   To be fully present in conversation and life
  ·   Prayer
o   Gabe Lyones, “Prayer should humble us and posture us, puts us in the posture of understanding  any power we have to get by in life comes from our connection with God. And the work he is doing through the spirit in our live
   o   1 these 5:17 never stop praying
o   Inviting God into how you are living.
   o   Story of Daniel 1:11-17
§  If it worked he would be in a better position to show how to live.
§  Counted on his faith incepting with God’s faithfulness.

When we practice these five things then we have a better chance of intercepting with God’s faithfulness.
